• Location: Sampigehalli, Bangalore

  • Size: 1,60,000 sq ft (77 Units/4 Acres)
  • Client: Radiance Builders (P) Ltd

The site measuring 4 Acres was located in the developing residential locality of Bangalore. The aim was to create community spaces – house with green spaces, pedestrian edge, and community nodes. Therefore decided to eliminate the margin space and to push the blocks to a side creating large open spaces. Also zoning was made effectively to retain the existing green cover and to be climate responsive. Main access road was created along the east west axis to minimise the solar exposure and secondary narrow pedestrian streets were branched out from it in such a way to reduce the amount of paver surface thus reducing the local heat island effects. Blocks were arranged along these narrow streets with low traffic volumes thus facilitating the greatest interaction among neighbours and the greatest sense of ownership. Green bridges were introduced as canopy across the streets connecting two blocks which not only contribute green area but also to community cohesion on and below it. Outdoor seating areas were provided to increase the community cohesion which promotes the surveillance within the community.
