About the project
The 80-year-old heritage building is located in the oldest part of the city which is congested and an important commercial street of the city. It is one of the few remaining buildings from the previous era. It was a grand house meant for a joint family living (members of the Chettiar community). Over the years it fell to neglect and repair while becoming obsolete in today’s scenario. The intervention sought to conserve the building, highlighting its grand architecture in a residential scale. At the same time through minimal changes (especially to circulation patterns) and economically viable conservation effort, the building adapted to today’s usage patterns transforming itself from a residential to commercial purpose.
