DESCRIPTION

This project is a juvinile school located in Athur. The spatial arrangement consist of a central open courtyard surrounded by class rooms on the three sides. Each floor has doubly loaded corridor that allow ample circulation for the students. The classrooms are well lit and air circulation is achieved throughout the building. The huge central space with ample lighting helps the students to develop a possitive impact on the children. The walls are treated with vertical slits of jali in regular intervals. The play of light through the perforation on the walls adds interest to the the children inside the building. Primary Challenge was to create a simple and cost effective language that could be adapted easily to different site conditions and slight varying programs. The design was to create a warm , playful and welcoming environment for these young children that would be filled with natural light and ventilation.Vernacular terracotta jaalis , shading and ventilation screens are used to wrap around parts of the building and are included on both sides of the corridors to facilitate adequate crossventilation . The jaalis cut down the sun and act as a protecting shell. The dual corridors are provided for security and surveillance.
