This 80 year old heritage building was located in a congested, commercial street in the Park-town area. It is one of the few remaining buildings from a previous era. It was a grand house meant for a joint family (members of the Chettiar community). Over the years it fell to neglect and repair and had become obsolete in today’s scenario. The intervention sought to conserve the building, highlighting its grand architecture in a residential scale. At the same time through minimum changes (especially to circulation patterns) the building was adapted to today’s usage patterns there-by creating an economic viability for the conservation effort.
